This Northern Saw-whet Owl, Aegolicus acadicus,  spends the winter at the Palmyra Cove Nature Center in New Jersey, where I found him sleeping during the day.  This small owl breeds across central Canada but is often found hidden away in winter across the Northeastern and Western United States.
