This Monarch, Danaus plexippus, perched on Sea Goldenrod, is migrating through Brigantine Island NJ in October 2003.   Monarchs migrate to the mountains of Northern Mexico for the winter.  Because of loss of forests and harsh winters the Monarch population has declined but appears to be recovering.
