This Peregrine Falcon,
Falco peregrinus, an endangered species, is resting on a sign at the
Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge. Forsythe is one of the sites
where the Peregrine was reintroduced. Today a pair lives on a
tower in the middle of the refuge. This banded juvenile is possibly an
offspring of that pair. The Peregrine is the fastest bird alive,
attaining a speed of up to 250 mph in a dive to kill prey.
