Anna's Hummingbird

This Anna's Hummingbird, calypte anna, is feeding in the Botanical Gardens of the University of Vancouver, British Columbia.  The nectar consumed by hummers passes through their body in less than an hour.  They extract 97% of the sugar and expel liquid that equals 75-85% of their body weight daily.
