Amicalola, meaning "falling water" in the Cherokee language, is the highest waterfall east of the Mississippi River, dropping 729 feet in the Blue Ridge mountains of North Georgia.  An eight-mile approach trail to Springer Mountain, the start of the Appalachian Trail, begins near the base of the falls. The afternoon sun on this detail produced a small rainbow.
