The Striped Owl, Asio clamator , occurs widely from southern Mexico to northern Argentina east of the Andes but not in the Amazon basin.. This owl prefers open or semi-open grassland and savannahs with scattered trees, small groves and bushes.  Striped Owls hunt small mammals and birds mostly at night.
