The Hyacinth
Macaw (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus) is the largest parrot in the
world, an endangered species with as few as 2500-5000 birds left.
Its high price in the United States ($7,000-10,000) caused an estimated
10,000 birds to be captured during the 1980's. We were fortunate
to find this bird close to the highway not far from a pair nesting in a
cavity on a high cliff.
