The Wahkeena Creek flows into the Columbia along the Columbia River Gorge Scenic Highway. The upper part of the Creek has a medium sized falls but most of the Creek is a series of tumbling rapids. A popular trail follows the Creek from the highway to the top. I was particularly attracted to the exposed base of this tree along the trail since it shows the anchoring of this ancient one and the interaction with other growth like the ferns. All of the growth is part of an integrated, diverse commuity of life in the forest.
