Storm Breaking Over Roan Mountain

Roan Mountain sits on the North Carolina-Tennessee border in the southern Appalachian Mountains. It has a dense stand of southern Appalachian firs and is home to the world's largest natural Rhododendron garden. The Appalachian trail traverses the peak. One stormy afternoon as I was watching the clouds rolling over the nearby peaks and trying to avoid the rain, the sun broke through and created this scene. |
