The Black-crowned Night Heron, Nicticorax nicticorax, spends its daytime in trees and fresh water marshes across the US and Mexico, feeding mostly on fish at night.  This juvenile posed nicely for me one morning beside an intake at the Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge in New Jersey.
