On
one rainy morning at Shawnee on the Delaware I wandered down to the
River and found these raindrops on a Japanese Knotweed. The
striking beauty of the red stems, the green foilage and the drops
reminded me of how beauty can dwell in unexpected
places. Knotweed is an invasive plant imported for
ornamental purposes that has almost taken over many of the banks along
the Delaware River and numerous other areas. It is extremely
difficult to kill and multiplies quickly. Its root structure
does not hold the soil in place so it is not a good plant for bank
erosion control.
