40. The Red Cliffs of Milford Bluffs These red cliffs tower above the River in Milford, New Jersey. They face South and provide home to flora that is rare for this area, including the Prickly Pear Cactus, Opuntia humifusa, which grows abundantly on the ledges. The geology is a very unusual combination of shale, sandstone and conglomerate dating from the Triassic period. The area is unglaciated. The Nature Conservancy and the New Jersey Natural Lands Trust has preserved 202 acres as Milford Bluffs Preserve.
